chard – the reliable vegetable
January 16, 2008
the food i ate:
the taste is complex, keep it that way. mellow and smooth, sweet, similar to a beet but leafy with a subtle bitterness. the texture is distinct, glossy and soft, curving between the veins and dipping toward the meaty spine. it wilts when introduced to heat—turning an incredibly gorgeous shade of green—but remains a very sturdy leaf.
it’s the green leafy veggie you can count on, sautéed with red onion and garlic. later, drenched in a mushroom merlot marinara, over a bed of a penne-ziti mixture.
the mood i’m in:
excited, happy, but also very nervous. change is on the horizon. i feel like i’m on the edge and i could tip over at any minute. but i feel like it probably wouldn’t matter on which side i fell. i am scared about being alone and i am scared about how unknown the future really is. i think i’ll be okay though.
